Introduction I recently cared for a 92-year-old former lawyer who suffered a stroke and was bedridden. He had lost his wife two months previously and was depressed. During his hospital stay I hardly ever saw a smile on his face. On his birthday I walked into his room and began singing "Happy Birthday," "Siman Tov and Mazal Tov," and some other Jewish songs. His face changed. I saw him smile for the first time and his spirits rose. I am sure that it was the song that touched him and not that his doctor was singing to him.
